The Packing House Poetry Series

December 21, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The December 21st show of The Packing House Poetry Series will feature Massachusetts based authors Robert Eugene Perry and Paul Szlosek.
Robert Eugene Perry has had several poems published in Worcester Magazine, as well as Poetica Magazine’s Mizmor Anthology, NatureCulture’s Honoring Nature collection, National Beat Poetry Foundation Remembering Jack Kerouac on his 100th Birthday, Beat Style Love Poems and Natural Worlds, Florence Poetry Society’s Silkworm 16,  and the online publications Soul-Lit: a journal of spiritual poetry, Poetica Magazine and The Academy of the Heart and Mind, and his poem Primal was a finalist in the 2023 Beals Prize for Poetry. His short story In the Company of Trees was published by Wordpeace Journal.  As a metaphysical poet, he finds inspiration in nature and endeavors to draw connections between our higher selves and the natural world.
Paul Szlozek is a poet born in Southbridge, Massachusetts, but currently residing in the nearby metropolis of Worcester. The recipient of the 2023 Stanley Kunitz Medal as well as the Jacob Knight Award for Poetry in 2001, he was co-founder and host of the long-running Poet’s Parlor poetry reading in Southbridge and Sturbridge. His poems have appeared in various local & national print & online publications including The Worcester Review, Worcester Magazine, Radius, Sahara, Concrete Wolf, Soul-Lit, and Diner. He’s probably best known in the Central Massachusetts poetry community for his fanatical obsession with obscure poetry forms, and has invented his own including the ziggurat, the streetbeatina, the hodgenelle, the lux, and the singsangsong.
The show’s format will consist of two open mic segments as well as a pair of 15-minute slots for each of the featured artists. Intermission will give the audience and poets the chance to meet one another and the opportunity to purchase signed publications.
The open-mic segments will provide the opportunity for audience members to read their own original work. We are planning to allow for two half-hour sessions, one at the beginning of the event, and the other at the end. Readers will be given up to five minutes to present, and we will have a sign-up sheet. This program is hosted by the “Eastern Connecticut Center for History, Art, and Performance” (EC-CHAP) and Steve Veilleux. Writers who are interested in featuring should reach out to either Steve Veilleux (Veilleuxs50@gmail.com) or Tom Buccino (info@ecchap.org).
Soft drinks and snacks available. We are pleased to offer our exclusive “BYOB&F” TM model – Bring Your Own Beverage & Food TM (Wine & Beer Only -I.D. Required).
