Muriel Nelson lives near Seattle where she enjoys music, furry muses, and edible landscaping, and believes that salads need flowers, too. She’s sung in choirs, played chamber music, taught elementary music and college English, lobbied for education, founded a children’s clothing bank, and helped start community suppers. Her favorite city is Prague, which is pictured on Sightsinger‘s cover. Nominated five times for the Pushcart Prize, Nelson’s books include two full-length poetry collections, Sightsinger (Encircle Publications) and Part Song (Bear Star Press, Dorothy Brunsman Poetry Prize), and two chapbooks, Please Hold (Encircle Publications, Poetry Chapbook Award) and Most Wanted (ByLine Press, ByLine Chapbook Award). Her poems have appeared in anthologies and journals, and two have been set to music. She holds master’s degrees from the University of Illinois School of Music and the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College.
