Join us on Sunday\, April 11\, 2021\, at 7:00 pm. \nVisit the Zoom registration link to receive information on how to join the reading\, and Zoom will send you an e-mail with the meeting details and link. \nRegister \nCharles Coe is the author of three books of poetry: All Sins Forgiven: Poems for my Parents\, Picnic on the Moon\, and Memento Mori\, all published by Leapfrog Press. He is also the author of Spin Cycles\, a novella published by Gemma Media. Charles was selected as a Boston Literary Light by the Associates of the Boston Public Library and is a former artist fellow at the St. Botolph Club in Boston and a current artist-in-residence at the Manship House in Gloucester. \nA short film by filmmaker Roberto Mighty\, “Peach Pie\,” was based on his poem\, “Fortress” which has been shown at film festivals nationwide. Another short film\, “Charles Coe: Man of Letters\,” also by Roberto Mighty was named “Outstanding Documentary Short” at the 2020 Roxbury Film Festival. \nCharles was a 2017 artist-in-residence for the city of Boston\, where he created an oral history project focused on residents of Mission Hill. He is poetry editor of “Multiplicity\,” an online literary journal published by Bay Path University in Longmeadow\, Mass\, and associate editor of “About Place\,” an online literary journal published by Black Earth Institute. \nCharles has served as poet-in-residence at Wheaton College and at the Chautauqua Institution in New York State and is an adjunct professor of English at Salve Regina University in Newport\, Rhode Island\, and Bay Path University\, where he teaches in both MFA programs. He is co-chair of the Boston Chapter of The National Writers Union\, a labor union for freelance writers and editors. \n

During this time he wrote and published 12 poetry books and anthologies\, took part in local and international literary festivals and founded several literary groups and workshops. \nYouth Poet Laureate Amina Mohammed grew up in Worcester’s Main South neighborhood\, the daughter of an immigrant family. Her parents worked long hours to provide for her and her siblings with considerable support from neighbors. Mohammad is the first Youth Poet Laureate in the state of Massachusetts.

Gaffney is the Artistic Director of Stage Presence Productions; is the Host\, Writer\, and Producer of the Radio Show “The African American Experience” (which was recognized in O Magazine) and is the FIRST and ONLY Woman of Color to portray Esmerelda Scrooge in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol (produced by Stage Presence Productions). \nRush Frazier (they/them) is an artist\, activist\, and Worcester native. Frazier has published twelve chapbooks\, toured nationally\, and has twice represented Worcester at national poetry slam competitions. They are a recent recipient of the Key to the City and a past president of the Worcester County Poetry Association. Rush is currently the president of 508Pride. \nYouth Poet Laureate Amina Mohammed grew up in Worcester’s Main South neighborhood\, the daughter of an immigrant family. Her parents worked long hours to provide for her and her siblings with considerable support from neighbors. Mohammad is the first Youth Poet Laureate in the state of Massachusetts. \nXaulanda Thorpe is a spoken word poet from Worcester\, Massachusetts. She graduated from Boston University with a degree in biological anthropology in January 2020. During her time at BU\, when she was not examining primate samples\, she wrote short stories for Charcoal Magazine\, a student-led publication. In 2021\, Xaulanda’s poem was chosen for the African Burial Ground National Monument’s “Still I Rise” tribute to Maya Angelou. \nAshley Wonder has been writing for over ten years. She started out performing in black churches in Worcester. Then became a part of the Slam Community in 2014. Repping Worcester\, her hometown\, in Oakland 2015\, Decatur\, GA in 2016. She has had the opportunity to perform at the National Education Support Professional Conference (a part of the Massachusetts Teacher Association) in 2021 that had an audience of 2\,000 people! She also had the honor to be a part of the “Still I Rise” Maya Angelou tribute Festival.

DESCRIPTION:The WCPA is happy to help the Thirsty Lab poetry reading go virtual for their 4th (and occasional 5th) Tuesday reading.  On Tuesday\, April 27\, 20201\, Terry Farish will be the feature. \nVisit the Zoom registration link to receive information on how to join the reading\, and Zoom will send you an e-mail with the meeting details and link. \nRegister \nTerry Farish writes picture books\, novels\, and poetry.  The Good Braider\, a novel in verse about a girl from South Sudan is an American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults.  Flower Shadows\, about the war in Vietnam\, is a novel for adults described by Kirkus as a “female addition to the Vietnam genre that is as moving as it is wise.” Many of her books are about families who have come to the U.S. as refugees\, including Either the Beginning or the End of the World.  Recently she collaborated with a South Sudanese writer\, OD Bonny\,  to create A Feast for Joseph\, coming out in September.  She’s very honored to be part of the I’m Your Neighbor Project\, a program that promotes the use of picture books from many cultures to create community conversations about immigrants. She used to be the children’s librarian in Leominster\, which is how she met up with the Worcester County Poets. Now she lives in Maine.
