SUMMARY:The Duende Project
DESCRIPTION:The Duende Project is Chris O’Donnell\, drums and humor; Chris Lawton\, guitars and discipline; Steven Lanning-Cafaro\, bass\, keyboards\, guitars\, and probably another three or ten instruments by the time you read this; Tony Brown\, poems\, vocals\, unintentionally hilarious fretted instrumental attempts.) \nTogether\, these four blend poetry\, rock\, funk\, jazz\, reggae\, folk\, and whatever else works into something much more than the sum of the parts\, live or on record. \nFirst founded as a duo by Tony and Steven back in 2006\, the band became a trio with the addition of Chris O’Donnell in 2013.  Later that year Chris Lawton\, who’d been associated with the band as chief cook\, bottle washer\, drill sergeant\, and (most important) producer and studio engineer since before the beginning\, came on full time with that mean old Les Paul of his\, and there it was. \nThe band is based in Southern New England\, with members living in Massachusetts and Rhode Island from Worcester to south of Providence.  They’ve played everywhere from Washington DC to Portland ME\, concentrating most of their gigs between NYC and Worcester\, MA.

SUMMARY:Birthright: A Virtual Poetry Reading with George Abraham
DESCRIPTION:FRIDAY\, JANUARY 14 – 4:00—5:00 PM\nVirtual Event Worcester\, MA\, 01608\nRegistration Link: https://mywpl.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/birthright-a-virtual-poetry-reading-with-george-abraham/\n\nGeorge Abraham’s highly anticipated debut Birthright (Button Poetry\, 2020) constructs a dialogue in which “every pronoun is a Free Palestine.” Through poems of immense emotion\, and the use of alluring form\, Abraham crafts work that examines what we come to own by existing. As trauma seeps through generations\, can the body deconstruct its own inheritance? In a world that only takes\, what is owed? George Abraham is a Palestinian American poet and writer from Jacksonville\, FL. Their debut Birthright won the Big Other Book Award and the Arab American Book Award in Poetry and was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award in Bisexual Poetry. He is a board member for the Radius of Arab American Writers (RAWI)\, a recipient of fellowships from Kundiman and The Boston Foundation\, and winner of the 2017 College Union Poetry Slam Invitational’s Best Poet title. Their work has appeared in The Nation\, American Poetry Review\, The Baffler\, The Paris Review\, Mizna\, and elsewhere. A graduate of Swarthmore College and Harvard University\, Abraham currently teaches at Emerson College and is a Litowitz MFA+MA Candidate at Northwestern University.
