SUMMARY:Poetry Writing 101 with Susan Roney-O’Brien: Metaphors Be with You
DESCRIPTION:The Worcester Public Library is sponsoring a new poetry writing workshop with WCPA board member Susan Roney-O’Brien.  The virtual workshop will take place on Saturday\, December 5 between 11 am and noon.  Here’s the workshop description: \nMetaphors Be with You – And they are. You say\, S/he’s a bear in the morning\, not a literal statement\, but figurative\, a comparison that brings the image to life. Metaphors\, similes\, personification\, apostrophe\, irony…all these handy tools build fresh images through the use of our senses. Beginning with definitions and readings of poems\, we’ll create our own tapestries of words\, combine figurative language and literal experiences to forge “the best words in the best order.” \nRegistration link: https://mywpl.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/poetry-writing-101-with-susan-roney-o-brien-metaphors-be-with-you/ \nTwo other poetry writing workshops will be held on January 2 and February 6\, 2021. More information\, along with registration links\, once they are available.

SUMMARY:Poetry Writing Workshop with Susan Roney-O’Brien
DESCRIPTION:Join award-winning poet Susan Roney-O’Brien as she teaches Poetry Writing 101! in a virtual workshop from Worcester Public Library. \nYou have the tools already: experiences\, emotions\, insights\, and language. Poetry gives you voice. Sometimes you go deep\, delve into an incident or memory you had feared\, and bring it into the light. Sometimes there is so much joy that music sings from the page. After a few short exercises to get started\, we’ll read some wonderful poems\, talk about craft\, and open to each other’s voices. Come write! \nSusan Roney-O’Brien earned her MFA at Warren Wilson College and is the author of five poetry collections. She hosts monthly poetry readings\, teaches workshops\, and coordinates the Stanley Kunitz summer writing series. \nAdvanced registration is required for this free event.
