DESCRIPTION:Indian Lake Community Association presents Arts in The Garden “an outdoor event that features music and poetry at the Community Teaching Garden on West Boylston Drive in Worcester. Performances will be every other Thursday starting July 7th from 6:30-8:00pm. Rain dates are the following day (Friday). \nOn October 5th we will be featuring musician PE James\, and poet Joe Fusco Jr. Admission is FREE and patrons are encouraged to bring non-alcoholic beverages and snacks to this family friendly event. Join us for an awesome time at Arts in The Garden! \n  \nPE James has been entertaining audiences by singing and playing acoustic guitar for over four decades.   He is an interpreter of well known songs\, having a large repertoire that stretches from the sing-along classics of the 20s\, 30s\, and 40s\, to standards and show tunes\, early 50s rock and roll\, 60s folk songs\, and acoustic rock songs of the 70s.​He also writes and performs original material\, and his songs have been played on radio stations in Worcester\, Massachusetts and his native Pittsburgh\, PA.  His song “The Pantyhose Blues” has become a crowd favorite.  He has recorded four CDs\, and has also recorded TV shows for five different stations. P.E. plays at concerts\, restaurants\, and bars all through central Massachusetts\, and he is also enjoyed on the circuit of assisted living\, retirement\, and rehabilitation facilities. \n  \n  \n\n  \n\n  \n \nJoe Fusco Jr. is a well-seasoned poet and humorist from Worcester\, Massachusetts. He is the author of four books of semi-amusing poems and essays: Pondering the Pandemic During the Rust Years (2021); Hmm…That’s Different (2020); Three Score (2014); and The Lost and Found Essays (2012)\, all available on Amazon. Joe’s musings have appeared in Damfino Press\, Ballard Street Poetry\, Worcester Review\, Asinine Poetry\, and the naughty ezine Clean Sheets. He was a co-winner of the Jacob Knight Poetry Award in 2002 and was named Best Poet by Worcester Magazine readers in 1999 and 2002. Joe is still a frequent contributor to Worcester Magazine and the last Worcester Mega-Slam winner in 2017. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a special  triple feature edition of our monthly open mic and featured poetry reading series The Poetorium at Starlite hosted by Paul Szlosek and Ron Whittle. It will be a full evening of poetry & spoken word starting with a brief interview on stage with our three featured poets Brian Mosher (Author of The Broken Mosaic\, & Dreams and Other Magic)\, Eric Petersen AKA ESP (Author of Literary Conception)\, & Craig S. Semon (Poet\, Reporter\, & Entertainment Columnist) followed by readings by our 3 features\,  a 10-minute tribute to a dead poet by a guest reader\, a short intermission\, and then an open mic (with 5-minute slots for each reader). He’s been writing poetry and short fiction since he was in High School in the 1970s\, and has self-published 3 books: One Bad Day Deserves Another\, Moon Shine and Lemon Twists (both in 2016); and The Broken Mosaic (2021). His poetry chapbook\, Dreams and Other Magic was published by Alien Buddha Press in July of 2023. His poetry has appeared or is slated to appear soon in the online journal Verse Wrights and the print journal Rushing Thru the Dark from Choeofpleirn Press (pronounced chuf-plern). He also maintains a poetry blog\, Phlubbermatic. His fiction has appeared or is slated to appear soon in Esoterica Magazine and Half and One Magazine.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEric Petersen (AKA ESP) first arrived on Earth sometime in July 1976. However\, eyewitness testimony from this time is sketchy at best. He graduated from Oakmont Regional High School in 1995. He worked for nearly five years at Burbank Hospital. ESP attended classes at Mount Wachusett Community College. There he was a regular contributor to their monthly literary magazine. He is the author of “Sociopath: A True Story” and “Shorty Stories” which are autobiographical. He is also the author of the novella Retard and the short story “The Day After”. In addition\, he has a collection of poetry and short stories titled Literary Conception which is in the process of being re-edited. These titles are available through Kindle. ESP is also currently working on a project of producing poetry videos which can be seen on “poemsesp” on TikTok. Eric is a devoted father\, an avid reader\, and a builder of model rockets. He has been working in human services since 2000 and currently helps manage a home for men with traumatic brain injuries.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nCraig S. Semon is widely known as a popular reporter & entertainment columnist for both the Worcester Telegram & Gazette and Worcester Magazine with his writing also appearing nationally in USA Today\, Yahoo News\, U.S. News & World Report\, Miami Herald\, Washington Times\, The Charlotte Observer\, Kansas City Star\, Bedford Minuteman\, Belmont Citizen-Herald and more. Lesser known is that Craig is a poet who pens wonderfully surreal and often hysterically funny poems. As a member of the Noh Place Artists’ Collective in Worcester in the 1980s\, his poetry has been recently featured in the Noh Place Poetry Anthology published in 2022. Craig has been famously quoted for saying “I saw Worcester in her face. I suggested she sees a dermatologist.”

All welcome. \n  \n \nSimon Hunt lives and writes in Massachusetts\, having lived in Monterey\, California\, for 20 years and Las Vegas\, Nevada\, for three years. He has been a teacher for more than three decades\, predominantly in California and at the high school level. His poems have been published widely in print and online journals. 2018 saw the publication of his first collection of poems\, Lesser Magi\, and in 2019 his first play\, “Re-run\,” was staged. Simon was born in what is now Zimbabwe and also lived in South Africa and the United Kingdom as well as the USA during his childhood. A father of two\, he served the Robinson Jeffers Tor House Foundation in Carmel\, California\, as a volunteer tour docent and trustee for over a decade. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the book launch by Geoff Wilkinson and Bill Tremblay and reading from their new books: “Confluence” and “The Luminous Racetrack: A Memoir in Poems.”  It will take place in the Multipurpose Room of Sheehan Hall @ Worcester State University. The event is free and open to the public. \n  \n \n  \nBill TREMBLAY is an award-winning poet\, novelist\, teacher\, editor\, and reviewer whose work has appeared in ten full- length volumes of poetry including Crying in the Cheap Seats [University of Massachusetts Press]\, The Anarchist Heart [New Rivers Press]\, Duhamel: Ideas of Order in Little Canada [BOA Editions Ltd.]\, Shooting Script: Door of Fire [Eastern Washington University Press]. Hundreds of his poems have appeared in literary magazines and in such anthologies as the Pushcart Prize\, The Jazz Poetry Anthology\, Best American Poetry\, 2003\, In 1994\, he published his first novel\, The June Rise\, which was widely and favorably reviewed\, especially on NPR All Things Considered; In 2004\, his book\, Shooting Script: Door of Fire received the Colorado Book Award [2004]. He has received awards and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts\, the National Endowment for the Humanities as well as The Pushcart Prize Anthology and the Corporation at Yaddo. He was a Fulbright visiting Lecturer at Universidade de Lisboa\, Portugal\, .Mr. Tremblay edited Colorado Review for 15 years\, and is the recipient of the John F. Stern Distinguished Professor award for his thirty-three years teaching in and directing the MFA in Creative Writing Program at Colorado State University. His latest book is The Luminous Race Track\,(2023)\, memoirs about growing up in his Franco-American working-class family in the mill town of Southbridge\, Massachusetts.

Her book Frost in the Low Areas (Zone 3 Press) won the 2014 PEN New England Award in poetry and was a “Must Read” selection from the Massachusetts Center for the Book. She is the winner of the 2016 Jeffrey E. Smith Editors’ Prize in poetry from The Missouri Review and has won additional awards and fellowships from the Poetry Society of America\, New England Public Radio\, the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, Split This Rock\, Hedgebrook\, and elsewhere. She loves volunteering in the public schools and bringing a little poetry into the classroom\, but she can’t decide if she prefers kindergarteners (so sweet!) or teenagers (hard to win over\, but the winning is glorious). DESCRIPTION:Indian Lake Community Association presents Arts in The Garden “an outdoor event that features music and poetry at the Community Teaching Garden on West Boylston Drive in Worcester. Performances will be every other Thursday starting July 7th from 6:30-8:00pm. Rain dates are the following day (Friday). \nOn September 21st we will be featuring musician Cross Tracks\, and poet Tony Brown. Join us for an awesome time at Arts in The Garden! \n  \nCross Tracks is a 4 piece acoustic band that includes guitar\, fiddle\, mandolin\, harmonica and bass. Our name signifies that we have crossed the tracks of musical genre many times. Our music is drawn from several different traditions including folk\, bluegrass\, country\, jug band\, rock and blues that seamlessly fits together by a unified sound. We have played at many venues across New England including music venues\, orchards\, fairs and farmer’s markets. We love to perform! He is best described as political\, deadpan and wryly humorous delivered in his own style. DESCRIPTION:Three distinct poetic voices will unleash their truths at Roseland Park\, 205 Roseland Park Road (in the barn) on Sunday\, September 10th at a free\, spoken word reading hosted by Poets at Large. The reading will be from 2-4 p.m. with an open mic (5-minute limit as time allows)\, and is recommended for ages 14 and up. Featured will be CT poets Pegi Deitz Shea\, T’Challa Williams and C.C. Arshagra. \n  \nDeitz Shea will start the afternoon reading some pieces from her newest book\, The Weight of Kindling (Grayson Books). This work examines her roots of inspiration including her grandmother’s history\, her own world travels\, and the family she helped create. Deitz Shea\, a Tolland resident and two-time winner of the CT Book Award\, taught Children’s Literature and Creative Writing from 2007-2020 at UCONN. She is the author of more than 450 published articles\, essays\, poems for adult readers and 16 books for young readers. She was the inaugural Poet Laureate of Vernon\, and directs Poetry Rocks\, a quarterly reading series she founded in 2017 and currently serves as the President of the CT Council of Poets Laureate. Join us for an awesome time at Arts in The Garden! \n\n\nSarah Louise French began her music career in the small town of Red Feather Lakes\, Colorado\, where she worked in her early 20s as a wrangler by day and singer by night. \n\n\n\nSince moving back to New England and focusing on a career in Environmental Science\, French has made sure not to stray too far from her musical roots. She founded the band ‘Iza Jane’ in 2010\, and released the EP “Dirty Hands” in 2013. In 2016\, she co-founded Women of Worcester Productions – an organization focused on celebrating\, inspiring\, and encouraging women in Worcester County through music\, art\, and leadership. \nThroughout her years of performing\, French has shared the stage with such notable artists as Jonathan Edwards\, Chris Thile\, and Shannon McNally. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a special double “Bill” edition of our monthly open mic and featured poetry reading series The Poetorium at Starlite hosted by Paul Szlosek and Ron Whittle. It will be a full evening of poetry\, spoken word\, and music starting with a brief interview on stage with our two featured poets Bill Tremblay (Author of Shooting Script: Door of Fire and The Luminous Race Track) & Bill O’Connell (Author of Sakonnet Point and  When We Were All Still Alive) followed by readings by our 2 features\, a 10-minute tribute to a dead poet by a guest reader\, a short intermission\, and then an open mic (with 5-minute slots for each reader). Admission is free\, but a hat will be passed for donations to pay our features and compensate Starlite for the use of their space. Hundreds of his poems have appeared in literary magazines and in such anthologies as the Pushcart Prize\, The Jazz Poetry Anthology\, Best American Poetry\, 2003\, In 1994\, he published his novel\, The June Rise {Utah State University Press}\, which was widely and favorably reviewed\, especially on NPR’s “All Things Considered.” In 2004\, his book\, Shooting Script: Door of Fire received the Colorado Book Award [2004]. He has received awards and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts\, the National Endowment for the Humanities as well as The Pushcart Prize Anthology and the Corporation at Yaddo. He was a Fulbright visiting Lecturer at Universidade de Lisboa\, Portugal\, .Mr. Tremblay edited Colorado Review for 15 years\, and is the recipient of the John F. Stern Distinguished Professor award for his thirty-three years teaching in and directing the MFA in Creative Writing Program at Colorado State University. His latest book is The Luminous Race Track\,(2023)\, poetic memoirs about growing up in his Franco-American working-class family in the mill town of Southbridge\, Massachusetts.
