SUMMARY:Poetry Writing 101 with Susan Roney-O’Brien: In Form\, Conform\, Reform
DESCRIPTION:The Worcester Public Library is sponsoring a poetry writing workshop with WCPA board member Susan Roney-O’Brien.  The virtual workshop will take place on Saturday\, February 6\, between 11 am and noon.  Here’s the workshop description: \nTraditional or “received” forms give poets the opportunity to practice technique\, to work within an established scaffolding. We tune our ears to meter and rhythmic patterns that\, once set up\, are expected. So many forms to explore! We’ll start simply\, define and try limericks\, acrostics\, abcderians\, haikus\, tankas and move on to read sonnets\, sestinas\, and villanelles. Perhaps once we know the pattern\, we can learn to break the form like Robert Frost did in “Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening”. \nRegistration: https://mywpl.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/poetry-writing-101-with-susan-roney-o-brien-in-form-conform-reform

SUMMARY:Poetry Writing 101 with Susan Roney-O’Brien: Sound\, Resound
DESCRIPTION:The Worcester Public Library is sponsoring a poetry writing workshop with WCPA board member Susan Roney-O’Brien.  The virtual workshop will take place on Saturday\, January 2\, between 11 am and noon.  Here’s the workshop description: \nPoetry begins in the body and sings in the ear. We hear alliteration\, assonance\, consonance\, euphony\, cacophony\, rhyme\, rhythm\, anaphora\, and all kinds of repetition\, and yet are not always aware of what we hear. Sound yanks\, caresses and awakens us to mood\, tone\, image\, and meaning. Join in the listening. We’ll use a few poems as examples and some prompts to get us moving\, initiate a beat\, perhaps syncopate the rhythm and integrate rhyme so that we can quickstep into the dance of creation. \nRegistration: https://mywpl.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/poetry-writing-101-with-susan-roney-o-brien-sound-resound

DESCRIPTION:The Worcester Public Library is sponsoring a new poetry writing workshop with WCPA board member Susan Roney-O’Brien.  The virtual workshop will take place on Saturday\, December 5 between 11 am and noon.  Here’s the workshop description: \nMetaphors Be with You – And they are. You say\, S/he’s a bear in the morning\, not a literal statement\, but figurative\, a comparison that brings the image to life. Metaphors\, similes\, personification\, apostrophe\, irony…all these handy tools build fresh images through the use of our senses. Beginning with definitions and readings of poems\, we’ll create our own tapestries of words\, combine figurative language and literal experiences to forge “the best words in the best order.” \nRegistration link: https://mywpl.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/poetry-writing-101-with-susan-roney-o-brien-metaphors-be-with-you/ \nTwo other poetry writing workshops will be held on January 2 and February 6\, 2021. More information\, along with registration links\, once they are available.
