SUMMARY:Arts In the Garden
DESCRIPTION:Indian Lake Community Association presents Arts in The Garden “an outdoor event that features music and poetry at the Community Teaching Garden on West Boylston Drive in Worcester. Performances will be every other Thursday starting July 7th from 6:30-8:00pm. Rain dates are the following day (Friday). \nOn July 13th we will be featuring musician Gabe Sakacs-Navarre\, and poet Eve Rifkah. Admission is FREE and patrons are encouraged to bring non-alcoholic beverages and snacks to this family friendly event. Join us for an awesome time at Arts in The Garden! \n\n  \nGabriel Sackas-Navarre was born in Paradise\, California to a family with a long musical heritage. He wrote his first song at age 11. It wasn’t very good. But as Gabe matured\, so did his songwriting and instrumental finesse. At 17\, Gabe strapped on his wandering shoes and hopped a train west\, settling in the artistic\, bohemian houseboat community of Sausalito\, California. It was there and in nearby San Francisco\, that he honed his musical chops\, playing clubs like John Lee Hooker’s Boom Boom Room and The Saloon\, the longest continuously-running blues club in the country. \n\nHis musical explorations drew him to Nashville\, where he worked as a professional musician for two years\, and followed that up with a stint on the Las Vegas strip. More recently\, Gabe has brought his music home to New England. His songs are well-crafted\, edgy and timeless. \n  \n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nEve Rifkah was co-founder of Poetry Oasis\, Inc. (1998-2012)\, a non-profit poetry association dedicated to education and promoting local poets. \n\nFounder\, and editor of DINER\, a literary magazine with a 7-year run. She is the 2021 recipient of the Stanley Kunitz award. She has run an ongoing writing workshop for 15 years and teaches workshops and classes at WISE (Worcester Institute for Senior Education). She lives in Worcester\, MA with her husband\, musician\, artist\, writer Michael Milligan and their cat\, Bela. \n\n
